The origins of the Boubou are actually Biblical, first described in ancient texts as a base for consistent use under whatever head covering a woman chose to wear.

Well, we've come a long way since then.

The Boubou has evolved to become a form and fabric all its own.
Bobos have the ability to give volume, in height and/or width, to give comfort and softness in between the scalp and a chosen head covering, and to keep pretty much any head covering, no matter how sheer and sleek the material, in place (even the finest silk has met its match).

We receive more questions concerning the shape and purpose of our Volumizers than any other inquiry.

Here we want to demystify the secret of Boubous that we have available for purchase, so you can choose which one best suits your needs:

1. Anti-Slip Headband

This band is two thin layers of fabric, without thickness. Its purpose is to keep any additional head coverings securely in place.
Available in Black and in White.

2. Anti-Slip Volume Headband

This band gives fullness without the full head coverage.
Its purpose is to keep any additional head coverings securely in place, while adding some width around the head. It does not require wrapping.
Available in Black and in White.

3. Basic Volumizer

This Boubou give overall coverage, including a non-slip band at the front edge, as well as height on the crown of the head. It is our most popular Volumizer. Available in Black and in White.

4. Volumizer with low volume strip

This Boubou gives overall coverage, including a non-slip band along the front edge, as well as height on the crown of the head, additionally it includes a simple two-ply band, with no extra volume, that wraps around the width of the head twice. In addition to adding to the non-slip quality of this under-cover, it also adds just a touch of fullness without adding any real width.

4. Volumizer with volume strip

This Bobo gives overall coverage, including a non-slip band along the front edge, as well as height on the crown of the head, additionally it includes a padded band, with extra volume, that wraps around the width of the head twice. In addition to adding to the non-slip quality of this under-cover, it also adds an elegant and regal fullness. Available in Black and in White.

5. Mousse Volumizer

This Bobo gives overall coverage without the added fuss of wrapping. It is a simple hat-shape, that includes fullness on both the crown of the head as well as the width surrounding the head. It also includes a non-slip edge. This Boubou takes next to no time to throw on and cover with a scarf. Available in Black and in White.

6. Velvet Mousse Volumizer

This Boubou gives overall coverage without the added fuss of wrapping. It is a simple hat-shape, that includes fullness on both the crown of the head as well as the width surrounding the head. It is fully made of Velvet, which allows it to act as a non-slip head covering in totality. This is the perfect Boubou to use if you are wearing a silk scarf or any fabric that tends to slip. The Velvet adds a truly elegant touch and can even be worn exclusive of an additional scarf, even to a formal event. This Boubou takes next to no time to throw on. Available in Black only.
